How to choose stainless steel pipe and fittings

S.S forged threaded fittings in SS304 and SS316 (ASTM A182) are listed in 2000, 3000 and 6000 psi, BSP or NPT, from ¼" to 2": sockets, half couplings, 45° and 90° elbows, equal tees, crosses, hex nipples, unions, end caps, end plugs and threadolets, plus reducing sockets, reducing tees and reducing hex nipples from ⅜" × ¼" to 2" × 1½". S.S king nipples are listed from ¼" to 4", and S.S long nipples from ¼" to 8" in lengths of 3" to 12".

S.S pipe, ERW and seamless, is stocked at Al Quoz in SCH10, SCH40 and SCH80 from ¼" to 12". S.S butt-weld fittings in 304/304L and 316/316L run from ½" to 12" in SCH10, SCH40 and SCH80, and S.S flanges in ASTM A182 F304/304L and F316/316L come in SORF, SWRF, WNRF, blind and threaded up to 24".

316L resists chlorides better than 304, so it is the usual pick near the sea, in cooling water and in chemical lines. Use threaded fittings where the line must come apart, and butt-weld fittings on larger welded runs.
