How to choose socket-weld fittings
Forged C.S socket weld fittings in ASTM A105 are listed in 2000, 3000 and 6000 psi, for SCH40 and SCH80 pipe, from ½" to 4": 45° and 90° elbows, equal and reducing tees, full, half and reducing couplings, unions, crosses, end caps, plugs and king nipples. Reducing tees and reducing couplings run from ⅜" × ¼" to 4" × 3".
Socket weld fittings suit small-bore lines at higher pressure, where a threaded joint could leak and a butt weld is hard to make. Push the pipe into the socket, then pull it back about 1.6 mm before welding to leave an expansion gap. Pick the rating to match the pipe wall and the line pressure, and tell us the pipe schedule (SCH40 or SCH80) when you order.

Questions buyers ask
Which pressure rating do I need?
Match the fitting to the pipe wall and the line pressure. We list 2000, 3000 and 6000 psi for SCH40 and SCH80 pipe; send the pipe schedule and pressure on WhatsApp and we confirm the match.
Why leave a gap before welding?
The gap of about 1.6 mm lets the pipe expand as the weld cools, which helps stop the weld cracking.
Socket weld or threaded?
Socket weld gives a stronger joint that is less likely to leak. Threaded fittings are easier to take apart; our threaded forged fittings page lists the C.S threaded range.
