How to choose a foot valve or float valve
We list foot valves for pump suction lines: brass foot valves, BSPT, from ½" to 4", including a net type in brass and SS; cast iron foot valves, flanged PN16 with leather flap from 4" to 8" or NPT with rubber flap from 2" to 8"; and PVC foot valves, NPT, from 1" to 6". Float valves are listed with a copper ball at 4" and with a PVC ball from ½" to 2", threaded.
A foot valve sits at the bottom end of a pump suction pipe. Its strainer keeps out debris and its non-return action holds water in the pipe so the pump stays primed. Size it to the suction pipe, not the pump outlet, and keep it clear of the tank or sump floor so mud is not drawn in. A float valve shuts the inlet when a tank fills.

What does a foot valve do?
It stops water draining back out of the suction pipe, so the pump stays primed, and its strainer keeps debris out.
What sizes do you have?
Brass from ½" to 4", PVC from 1" to 6", and cast iron from 2" to 8" (NPT with rubber flap) or 4" to 8" (flanged PN16 with leather flap).
Which float valve do I need?
We list a 4" float valve with copper ball and float valves with PVC ball from ½" to 2". Choose by the inlet size of your tank.
